The Art Basel is one of the world's most important exhibitions of contemporary art. The exhibition was hold for the 47th time in 2013. The Art Basel has two international branches. The "Art Basel Miami Beach" has been held for 10 years and the "Art Basel Hong Kong" opened its doors for the first time in 2013.

Basel World

More than 1800 companies present their new watches, jewelleries, gems and innovations every year during springtime in Basel. Approximately about 100000 retail- and wholesalers from all over the world travel to Basel in order to discover the latest products and trends of the watch and jewellery industry.

Basel old city centre

The old city centre of Basel is very well preserved and is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Small boutiques, antique book shops and modern designer shops attract young and old people. For more than 100 years the traditional “Läckerli Huus” is known for the tasty "Basel Honey biscuits" and the chocolate- and candy specialities.

Kunstmuseum Basel

The Kunstmuseum Basel possesses the world’s largest collection of the Holbein family. The Renaissance era is also represented by important art pieces of Konrad Witz, Martin Schongauer or Lucas Cranach.

Tinguely Museum

Star architect Mario Botta created an extraordinary "Playground" for the art pieces of Tinguely directly at the Rhine. 20 sculptures welcome the guests in the big central hall. The figures are indefatigable moving and attract art lovers and laities. Jean Tinguely communicates and interacts through his art pieces with the guests. The art pieces of Tinguely reflect esprit, love of life, irony and poetry.

Fondation Beyeler

The Fondation Beyeler is the art collection of Hildy and Ernst Beyeler which was gathered by the couple in 50 years and which was given to the foundation in 1982. The collection with focus on classical modernity was shown to the public for the first time in 1989 in Madrid. The Beyeler collection documents reflect personality of the gallery owners Hildy and Ernst Beyeler in regard to the art of the 20th century. The collection holds art pieces of Degas, Monet, Cézanne, van Gogh, Picasso, Mondrian, Warhol, Lichtenstein and Bacon.

Autumn fair Basel

Since 1471 the autumn fair Basel starts on the last Saturday of October and is heralded at 12 a.m. by the "Messglöcklein" (=church bell) of the Martin-tower. The festivities simultaneously take place on six different venues at the same time. Almost one million people visit the autumn fair during the 16 days on the Barfüsser-, Munster- and St. Petersplatz or in the "Rosentalanlage" and "Kasernenareal".

Basel Tattoo

The Basel Tattoo is a music festival which started in 2006 and continues for nine days at the end of July every year. Based on the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Basel Tattoo is the second largest event of this kind in the world. The importance of the Basel Tattoo is underlined by the patronage of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS).
